Een bijzonder jaar.... A special year......

Dat was 2014 zeker.... een bijzonder jaar.
Het eerste jaar zonder mijn vader.... wat een raar gevoel is dat....
Daar moet je een draai in vinden en dat kost energie en moeite..
That 2014 was.... a special year.
The first year without my father..... what a strange feeling is that...
You have to find a way to live with that and that costs energy and effort..

Op de arm bij mijn vader, 1959; ik ben een jaar oud.

En dan was er nog de schrik en zorg rond Nadeche; die maar één nier bleek te hebben en die ineens zulke problemen gaf..

Zo blij en dankbaar dat het nu zo goed gaat met ons prinsesje!

And than there was all the worry and troubles for Nadeche; who seemed to have one kidney, which had so many problems functioning..

So grateful and happy that our little princess is doing allright now!

En dan toch ook het blijde nieuws met Moederdag dat onze zoon en schoondochter er een kindje bijkregen!

Mike is geboren op 15 december; een wolk van een mannetje! 

En een lief broertje voor Lena!

And than the happy news at Mothersday that our son and daughter in law were having another baby!

Mike was born at December 15th; a beautiful little boy!

And a lovely little brother for Lena!

En wat helpt mij dan in al die emoties....?

Juist..... je handen wat laten doen....zodat je hoofd de tijd krijgt om alles een plekje te geven...

(enjehartevendetijdkrijgtomopademtekomen...)

And what helps me to handle al those emotions...?

Exactly.... work with your hands.... so your head gets the time to deal with it all...

Ondertussen groeit de stapel met mandjes gestaag en als ik er weer genoeg heb gaat er weer een rij aan de top...

En ik moet zeggen: hij is bijna af!

In the meantime the pile with little baskets grows steadily and when I have anough for a row, I sew it onto the top..

And I have to say: it's almost finished!

En ook al is het ondertussen de tweede dag van dit Nieuw Jaar;

toch wil ik jullie allemaal heel graag een

Op z'n kop...... Upside down.....

 (onderweg van Groningen naar huis... licht in het donker...)
 (on our way home from Groningen... light in the darkness..)

Het is alweer meer dan een maand geleden dat ik hier wat gepost hebt. Het is ook onvoorstelbaar hoe de wereld ineens op z'n kop kan staan...
Na de nieuwe keuken kon jongste dochter ineens aan een nieuwe baan beginnen midden in het land; dus van alles verhuizen; nieuw plekje inrichten...
Maar ook thuis konden we nu aan de slag met de vloeren op de verdieping. Eindelijk had iedereen een nieuwe vloer en twee zonen ook een nieuwe slaapkamer. Natuurlijk ging het allemaal niet zo snel en vlekkeloos als ik het hier vertel..

En toen...... werd vorige week onze jongste kleindochter van zes jaar ziek.... wat eerst leek op een buikgriepje veranderde snel in ernstig...
In het ziekenhuis constateerde men een  mono-nier (oftewel één nier....); een vernauwing in de afvoer naar de blaas; en deze ene nier was ernstig vergroot. Ze werd overgebracht naar het UMCG; dat is voor je gevoel meteen heel ernstig,...
Gelukkig kunnen we nu (na een week) zeggen dat haar ene nier het nu weer zo goed doet dat ze naar huis mag. Weliswaar met een nefrostomie (dat is een drain uit de nier). Over een aantal weken moet er operatief een stent worden geplaatst in de vernauwing.
Je leven staat ineens op z'n kop! We zijn zo blij en dankbaar dat het op tijd is ontdekt; anders stond ons klein prinsesje nu voor heel andere (zeer ernstige..) problemen....

It's already more than an month I posted something here.... How the world can be upside down all of a sudden....
After the new kitchen our youngest daughter could start a new job in the centre of the country; so we helped her to move her things and furnish her new place...
But also at our home we could start with putting in new floors on the other levels. Finally everyone had new laminat-floors and two sons had a new bedroom. Ofcourse it didn't all go that smooth as I'm writing it now..

And than..... our youngest granddaughter (6 years old) got sick..... wat first seemed to be a stomach flu turned quickly in something very serious....
In the hospital the doctors found she had a mono-kidney (so one kidney..); a narrowing of the outlet to the bladder and the kidney was severely enlarged. They took her to the University Medical Centre at Groningen; that means she was really very sick....
I am SO glad to be able to tell you that she returns home today!
Her kidney functions with a nephrostomy ( a drain from her kidney) because of the narrowing in her ureter. And in some weeks they have to operate on her to widen the ureter.
How your life can be upside down in a moment! We are so glad and thankful that this is discovered in time; otherwise our little princess would have very different (severe..) problems....

Natuurlijk zorgt je quilten dan ook voor afleiding, gelukkig...
Hieronder maar even wat foto's..
Ofcourse is quilting a very good distraction, I'm glad...

Beetje vreemd....... Bit strange........

voelt het nog na een hele week achter m'n laptop- (of tv-) scherm te hebben gezeten en het nieuws volgen over de ramp met de MH-17....

Je voelt zo mee met de nabestaanden; terwijl je tegelijkertijd weet dat je nooit zult kunnen voelen wat zij op dit moment doormaken; het lijkt me verschrikkelijk om mee te moeten maken.......

it still feels, after a whole week following the news on my laptop- or tv-screen, about the diseaster with the MH-17....

I feel for the families and friends who have lost loved ones; the things they have to go threw......; while you know at the same time that you're just not able to feel what they feel.... it must be so terrible.....

Het is dan wel heel fijn om met je geliefde handwerk bezig te zijn....

Het geeft afleiding, maar ook rust.

It's just so good to be busy with my favourite handwork...

It gives distraction, but also peace of mind.

En dus wordt er hard aan de diamantjes gewerkt; diamantjes van hoop; liefde en tranen...

Deze quilt heeft z'n naam.

Dat gebeurt gewoon met quilts, he?!

Ze helpen je door dingen heen en vaak ontlenen ze daar hun naam dan ook weer aan...

And so I worked hard on the diamond-strings; diamonds of hope, love and tears.....

This quilt had it's name.

That's what quilts do, huh?!

They help you with the difficult things in live and often they derive their name from it..

En er is genoeg te doen!

De mandjes-quilt zou ik ook ZOOOOOOO graag afwillen maken....!!

Dit was een rijtje met 21 mandjes; (zie foto hieronder..)

dus op naar de volgende van 19...

There really is enough to do!

The little basket-quilt I would also LOOOOOVE to finish...!!

This was a row with 21 baskets; (foto below..)

so on to the next one with 19....

En natuurlijk blijf ik bezig met Love Entwined van Esther Aliu (klik).

Het gaat even iets minder snel; maar leuk blijft het wel, hoor!!

Ik hoop echt deze randen met hoekblokken af te hebben aan het eind van de maand augustus..

(oeps, wat zeg ik  nu.... ;) ......!)

And ofcourse I'm still working on Love Entwined by Esther Aliu (click).

It's not going that fast, but it is still so  much fun to work on!!

I really hope to finish these borders and cornerblocks by the end of August.

(woeps, what am I saying........ ;) ....!)

Bovendien ben ik iemand van de knuffels......  ;)

Steekje voor steekje....... Stitch by stitch......

komen allerlei verschillende werkjes dichterbij het doel. (omindetrantteblijvenvanhetvoetbal, he?!) 

all kinds of projects are closer to their goal.  (tostayintermsoffootball-orsoccer-, he?!)  

Sweet William wacht rustig op 'r beurt. En staat gewoon mooi te zijn...... ;)

Ik heb wel ontdekt dat ik het handquilten echt gemist heb... 

Maar nu ga ik gewoon zo snel dat er alweer een kwart af is.

Dat klinkt natuurlijk super, maar het betekent wel dat het in dit tempo zo af is....!!!

En... er is nog GEEN opvolgend handquiltporoject af!

Dus daar moet ik ook snel aan gewerkt worden en misschien iets minder aan het doorpitten van de SW.  :'(

Sweet William is patiently waiting her turn. And is just being beautiful....  ;)

I did discover I really missed handquilting..

But now I'm going so fast that a quarter of the quilt is already done.

That sounds great (I know), but it means that, if I keep working at this rate, this quilt  is soon finished....!!!

And... there is NO following handquiltproject to work on next!

So I have to work faster on another WIP (WorkInProgress) and less on quilting the SW.  :'(

Ik zou terug moeten kijken hoelang ik hier al mee bezig ben; ik weet het niet zo uit m'n hoofd, maar al wel een hele tijd.   ;)

I'ld have to look back to know for how long I'm working on this one; I don't know out of the top of my head, but quite some time.   ;)

En door het hele gebouw in huis, was ik al flink achtergeraakt met de dekens voor de dochters.

Dus dat moest ook even in gehaald; en mooi dat het wordt!

Heerlijk om even met je haaknaaldje rustig op de bank te zitten 

(en ondertussen te genieten van het voetbal!!).

And because of all the renovating in our home, I was way behind with the crochet along blankets for the daughters.

So I had to catch up; and it's turning out so beautiful!

It's great to relax with a crochethook on the couch

(and watching football -soccer-!!)

Ook even een paar plaatjes van de tuin; heerlijk genieten!

En, nou ja, met al die regen, vindt Amar dit een heerlijke tijdsbesteding........ :D

K-r-oningsQuilt en andere quiltige zaken..... The King's Quilt and other quilty affairs.....

Hier hangt eindelijk de K-r-oningsQuilt aan de lijn!

De bies zit er net aan en dan ook meteen maar even in de wasmachine en de droger.

En dan als laatste even uitwaaien in de tuin.

Dat kan ook bijna niet anders met het prachtige weer hier; 22 graden C; heerlijk!

Here is finally the King's Quilt hanging outside!

The binding is finished and she came right out the washingmachine and  dryer.

And now getting a breeze in the garden.

The weather is perfect for it; 22 degrees C; great!

Ik vind het altijd leuk om de naam, datum en mijn afkortingen op de achterkant te borduren, ipv een label.

I like to embroider the name, date and my initials on the back; instead of a label.

En natuurlijk maar snel verder met het volgende project wat af moet.

De laatste drie blokjes van de Sweet William.

Dat wordt ook een pracht quilt, met al die mandenblokjes!

En deze wil ik graag met de hand doorquilten; ik mis gewoon het handquilten!

Dus snel afmaken maar....  ;)

And ofcourse on to the next project I want to finish.

This is also going to be a beautiful quilt, with all those lovely basketblocks!

And I would love to quilt this one by hand; I just miss handquilting!
